In Cape Verde West Africa!
Cabo (Cape) Verde is a democratic republic
in western Africa, consisting of 10 islands
and eight islets just off the African coast in
the Atlantic Ocean. The island has an
interesting history, having been a slave
island and a pirate haunt, but today it is
stable and peaceful. These paradise
islands are unspoiled and largely
undiscovered, so there are no crowds and
vacations are cheaper than for many other
tropical destinations.
The Islands

The islands were formed by volcanic activity, and six of the inhabited islands are mountainous, while the
remaining three inhabited islands have miles of beautiful sandy beaches. The capital city, Praia, is on
Santiago, which is the most populous island. The main tourist islands are Sal and Boa Vista, while
Mindelo, on São Vicente, is Cabo Verde's cultural capital.

Four islands -- Santiago, Sal, Boa Vista and São Vicente -- have international airports with connections to
Africa, the Americas and Europe; but each inhabited island has a regional airport for inter-island travel.
The islands also are linked by a ferry service. Car rental is available in Praia, and metered taxis operate
in tourist areas.
Entry Requirements

Passports must be valid for at least six
months from date of arrival. Entry visas can
be purchased in advance from a Cabo
Verde Embassy, or at the airport on arrival.
No vaccinations are required since Cabo
has good sanitary conditions and no
endemic diseases.

Cabo Verde enjoys a tropic climate, with
little seasonal variation. Daytime
temperatures range between 77 and 84
degrees. The country is mainly arid,
although it experiences a short rainy
season between August and October.

Accommodations range from small, family-run "pensions" offering bed and breakfast to luxury
aparthotels and all-inclusive beach resorts. These include Riu's Club Hotel Karamboa on Boa
Vista and Club Hotel Garopa on Sal, which offer a wide range of amenities and entertainment.
Family-friendly hotels include the four-star Iberostar Club Boa Vista.
Attractions and Activities

This is a great destination for diving
and fishing. The warm waters and
underwater platforms attract a variety
of marine species, including grouper,
dory and sailfish, and fishing is
particularly good around Fogo. Sal is
the best island for water sports, with
wave-sailing, surfing and kite-surfing.
For nature lovers, the islands host
more than 70 bird species, including
the Cape Verde warbler; migrating
dolphins, sperm whales and orca can
be spotted off-shore; and Cabo is a
breeding ground for loggerhead
turtles. Attractions include the Pedro
Lume salt crater on Sal, the restored
San Felipe fort on Santiago and the
wreck of the freighter Santa Maria on
Boa Vista.

I can honestly say this was the best vacation I ever had. This
place looks nothing like the pictures of Africa they show on
tv. If you want a nice vacation in a clean and safe place, this
is it. Thank you, African Flavor Magazine.
